Such a unique analogy of life as a prison or prisoner. Once hurt, we often erect walls around our hearts too high for others to scale them. So we become both the prison and the prisoner as our hearts are trapped inside, slowly dying from the self-imposed isolation. A very thought provoking piece. Well done.
But why your last for a while? Hope you don't leave us waiting too long for your next posting.
A prison houses prisoners; A prisoner may nor may not house the prison inide of him/her....
I wonder if it were deliberate that you placed prison before prisoner. Gary these are two concepts that question us in our inner being. You "imaginative thinking" has wisely crafted this piece, congrats!
You are the warden and guard with heavy keys.
This poem is very unique. I read that you haven't written a poem you can be happy with..well..no writer ever has I believe. Kind of a tattoo all writers wear but from an outsider's perspective this one is up there. Great depth.
a little bit of both perhaps,Gary,we all are our prisons and the prisoners within,,, a very poignant feel you create,,,a feel of nothing ness,i have read thrice or four times now and this emptiness,,,you depict so beautifully,,,
You bring us a work that, on the surface, takes us into the world of the prison system... the separation... the pain... the living death, as it were... And then deeper, your words drive into the minds and hearts of each of us... our lives... our connections... our prisons... All things work together so brilliantly here. Excellent, moving write!

Do not love for the love of another,
nor seek the sights already sought,
live for the lives of the many,
and your days will in time be taught.
