It Was Just A DayA Poem by Gary McDonald
It was just a day
when I found you through the waves of black and you offered your hand to mine I saw you smile, the first of many our eyes intertwined around each others light all the other people fading into the walls hearts forever tethered to one another. It was just a day when the tree caught the rain for us as we lay in the rivers of green beneath words sourced from our hearts, swapped with tears a kiss, lingering in thought and taste shared only with the lonely moon that guards his thousands of minions, guiding my finger along your face. It was just a day when the crows ruled our breath each wing desperately reaching for the horizon your hair dancing to the tune of the sunset a concert just for us, that Autumn eve blessed was the sky's eternal struggle for our eyes eyes that sought their kin above nature's opera. It was just a day when bended knee at last arrived with the ring raised by my trembling fingers a declaration of love, falling short in words the only day "yes" could bring so much joy our deal sealed with a tender kiss lives forever paired, souls forever touched. It was just a day when our families gathered atop the shaded hill vowels expressed through streaming tears you could have flown, draped in your white dress a fleeting moment, in which my eyes saw your wings and my lips tasted those of sainted beauty before the horse drawn carriage lead us to our life. It was just a day but, oh, what a day it was not governed by light or time nor by any law, man or nature it was a day for our love and though it has passed us now I can forever live it with one glance at your eye. © 2010 Gary McDonaldAuthor's Note
