This Stony Road Outisde My House

A Poem by Gary McDonald

A canopy of trees, a carpet of leaves
this stony road outside my house
no cars or men have ever seen
but still this road is never clean
full of shadows, haunting my pass
touching my heel, I fall to the grass
gathering speed, the wind finds me
knocked to the ground, before I could stand
I hate the stony road outside my house.
