Bitter It Was

Bitter It Was

A Poem by Gary McDonald

"Bitter it was" she said to me
bitter as these waves be
lapping on those rocks below
to and fro, to and fro.

Sudden was the calming breeze
that carried her touch as to freeze
these waves of bitter be
that harvest all the pain in me.

"All is calm" she said tonight
a thankful tone, yet so slight
for waves of lost bitter be
no more shall we ever see.
