Black

Black

A Chapter by Garrett Leatherman

Black is attacked by the flame of every color.

It’s charred, it’s scarred, yet not made any duller,

Even though it’s not a color--it’s a tone!

Black is a tone because it sings,

Rather it violently moans from the stings

Of every color that reach all the way to its bones.

So, black is burdened by the weight of every shade.

On its back it bears every color and, thus weighed,

It painfully groans.

But black does not react with bitterness or a scowl,

Rather it plays with its anguished howls

Till it finds a melodic tone.

There you go!--Now you know why black is a tone.

Now you know why black has never ever shone.

Now can you hear its droning tone that it sings alone?

To me, black is music;

Black Crowes, "Black" by Pearl Jam, "Fade to Black" by Metallica, "Back in Black" by AC/DC, "Black Cadillac" by Shinedown and the list goes on and on.

Love the color black. Thank you for sharing your vision!
