Earth Maiden

Earth Maiden

A Poem by Garner Seabees
"

A poem inspired by the duties and rewards of raising children.

"

Birthed of sky, great starry night,

Sun bathes her in brilliant light,

Earth-maiden fair and dear,

Holding many infants near.

The rock and soil gifts of sky and sun,

To craft her adornments many and one,

The sky gives birth to barren trees,

Under sun's light she begins to weave.

To scrape and crack at rock and stone,

Earth's offspring man crafts majestic bones,

Set on her head in an immortal mold,

A crown of leaves encrusted with gold.

Her children given life by the stars and sun,

Given as gifts and duty to be done,

A maiden, a dame, a great sage,

Wisdom past mortal man's age.
