Ignite the Lights

Ignite the Lights

A Poem by A Poet Named Garit

He's not sure if he'll be here tomorrow

so he's got somethings to get off his chest.

He's lost and waisted time he's borrowed
and he's not quite sure if there's anymore left
He's no fan of promises nor perminence or change

And he's sure she heard this s**t before,

but she's gotta smile that makes him feel sane,

eye's that'd cripple a man,
who's already beaten, broken, and torn.

He was baffled by a red-dressed blessing in human form.

Do you believe in love?
Cause he sure don't
(at least that's what he says

but we know that's a joke)

Nervous child, can you speak a word?

The thought of her glare makes his words sound obsurd.
A dictionary for a mind and he can't even converse.
Shy and insecurity, it must be the worst.

Say it, boy, tell her about those warming lights!

Stare at those starry eyes until your heart ignites!

She replaced his stomach with butterflies caught in a cage
the moment she said hello and told him her name.

With a watch racing the pace of his heart

he swears "I'm dead" when their eyes connect

and time stands still, staring at his counterpart.

He mumbles his first word to her, "good-bye"
and continues to move forward with regret in his sigh.
Ambition drives him to catch her eye

though he only caught a name and a face,
so he'll have to let fate decide.
