A Veggie Tiger

A Veggie Tiger

A Poem by George David Hope

                                                                      A VEGGIE TIGER
There was a veggie tiger
The thought of meat it made him sick
While all the pride dined on gazelle
He preferred a celery stick
He used to lie and watch them
Chasing antelopes on the plain
Having to catch your dinner
Just looked like it was a pain
Now news got back to the BBC
Of the tiger who ate no meat
So they called in David Attenborough
And told him to take a seat
When told about this creature
He said "A veggie tiger well fancy that"
So off he went with a film crew
To try and find this cat
They searched and searched for many weeks
But not a glimpse could they catch
They'd found the rarest creatures on this planet
But this time met their match
They were just about to pack it in
When some tigers they did spot
Could one be the veggie tiger they'd seeked
Thought's of home they now forgot
They grabbed their camera's out the case
And film began to roll
Most of them eating meat
And one eating salad from a bowl
Attenborough couldn't believe his luck
Thoughts of another series filled his mind
He moved in for a closer look
But never saw what was behind
He crawled up on his knee caps
Like a cat that's on the prowl
He felt all safe and happy
Until behind him came a growl
He turned around and was face to face
With whiskers and shiny teeth
He only wanted to take some shots
With them he had no beef
All the tigers licked their lips
Then they all made a jump
Each tiger got a mouthful
All their throats had a meaty lump
The veggie tiger sat and watched
Till on him some blood did splash
Disgusted he licked it off his fur
Then in his head something did flash
He realised what he'd missed
Meat it tasted yummy
Better than having a cucumber
Sitting in his tummy
He turned towards the film crew
As he ran his fur it shook
His legs moving so rapidly
And promptly ran amuck
He finished them off in seconds
His stomach filled with flesh and bones
All that was left uneaten
Were camera's and earphones
Now there's no more veggie tiger
Who sits eating greens upon the plain
And there's no more BBC film crew
Who should have went to Spain

Glad you liked it. One of my older efforts that I found while I was cleaning out a drawer

I enjoyed the poem. People, who play with the wild animals. A bit loco.
This had to be a lot of work, telling a whimsical story all in rhyme. I thought it would be a great children's tale, up to the point where poor David got eaten. Come to think of it, Mother Goose tales were full of bloodshed. Yeah, read it to the kiddies.

Glad you enjoyed it. It was unfinished for quite a while as I kept getting distracted by other ditty.. read more
