Valentines Night

Valentines Night

A Poem by George David Hope

                                                                    VALENTINES NIGHT
Valentines was here
We'd been together for a year
I thought I'd make the effort
To show that I did care
I popped down to Marks and Sparks
For lobster and pink champagne
Boy i was really glad it was just once a year
Valentine's it was a pain
I went into a florists
For roses big and red
But when I saw the hiked up price
I nearly lost my head
I then popped into a clothing shop
For something made out of lace
Nothing too smutty
Just to put a smile upon my face
Shopping done home I did trot
To start my night of love
Hoping it was worth it
That my love to her I did prove
I made the meal and candles lit
I even had a shower
Barry White in the background
She'd be home within the hour
Then I saw an envelope
Could it be my Valentines card
But when I read the words she'd wrote
It really hit me hard
She said she was sorry
It was her it wasn't me
Tears filled up my little eyes
Till I hardly couldn't see
She said she'd met another
My head was in a whirl
And what made it worse
She'd left me for a girl
I thought to myself now don't be mad
You can still make the night a hit
At least you have a lovely meal
And the undies they might fit
