Sitting On A Cloud

Sitting On A Cloud

A Poem by George David Hope

                                                                     SITTING ON A CLOUD
As I sit upon a cloud
And watch the world below
I'd hope to see a thriving place
Not the nightmare that's on show
But the picture that lays before me
From my perch up high
The reality of what I'd see
Would make me want to cry
I'd see so much pain and suffering
Caused by hate and war
I'd just sit up there wondering
Just what it's all worth for
I'd see so much crime and murder
Muggings and things so cruel
A land where it's just not safe
For kids to walk to school
I'd see mass areas of rain forests
Disappearing day by day
Until all the wildlife becomes extinct
With no where for them to stay
I'd see so much pollution caused by industy
Controlled by man's greed for money
What happened to the lands we'd known
Filled with milk and honey
My heart would break for the working man
His life is filled with pain
His back would break while bosses grow rich
My tears would look like rain
I'd see governments and politicians
You scratch my back and I'll scratch your's
Nods and winks behind the scenes
Passing brown envelopes which open doors
So as I sit upon my cloud
My head would hang in sorrow
To late to save the planet Earth
For all our children's tomorrows

A very graphic work. Your imagery and grammar give a clear picture of a world of evil. This picture you paint is valid, but I submit there is one premise missing from your syllogism. Evil prevails when good men do nothing. Bullies and perpetrators feed off of victim mentality. The missing piece is the inherent goodness of man. That goodness springs from another premise: God resides in the hearts of men. We each have an obligation to do all within our means to oppose evil wherever we see it, to loose the power of faith and love within us. We must become the mechanism for divine intervention. Once loosed, that outbreak of goodness spreads like wildfire -- one faithful heart at a time. We could even call it a super power to stand up, for when we do God takes over. The hardest part is believing we can lead such a charge for good. Stand up for God and speak the inspiration that lights the cleansing fire against the evil you describe. Trust the God within you, not the self-serving seducers who prefer you to be helpless and fearful. You can be the bugler that wakes man from his nightmare of pain and suffering. Man's inhumanity to man happens only when the crime bosses and street punks go unchalleged. Your very poetic words can inspire us to be better humans.

It can never be too late, can it? Perhaps I have hope enough for us both!

Thanks for the review and the kind words. Out of all my little ditty's this is my mams favourite.
There is much to be disappointed with, but I also see great acts of courage and humanity which makes me think all is not lost. Thought provoking words from your cloud in the sky David. Thank you.
