On A Promise

On A Promise

A Poem by George David Hope

                                                                     ON A PROMISE
When I awoke this morning
My girlfriend turned to me
Do you want a night of passion
Well obviously I did agree
All day long I watched the clock
But it only moved more slow
I couldn't wait till 5pm
When it was time for me to go
She phoned me every hour
Saying what was planned for me
All her mucky phone calls
Filled me with such glee
She squeezed my bum when I got home
She said that's just a starter
Lifted up her leather skirt
Revealed to me a garter
She went upstairs to have a bath
Came back in something quite revealing
I popped the cork and poured the wine
And made signs towards the ceiling
We sat and ate some oysters
Food for lovers the fish monger had said
When we had finished the plate
We headed straight for bed
I quickly undressed to my leopard thong
Hoping her promise she would keep
She turned and kissed me on the nose
And then she fell asleep
