Four Young Girls

Four Young Girls

A Poem by George David Hope

                                                                          FOUR YOUNG GIRLS
Four young girls sleeping
Lying side by side
Close enough to hold hands
If their arms were stretched out wide
Oh so still and peaceful
Staring at the stars above
All forever joined together
In a bond of purest love
Four cold blocks of marble
With a story of their live's
Saying children now forever
Never to become mothers or wife's
A single rose in each urn
A few inches from their head
They are a silent tribute
To each girl who now lies dead
Grass above so neatly trimmed
It's no more than they deserve
All tended by four families
Their sentence they must serve
They were too young to die
That's what everyone did say
Taken by a speeding car
On that god forsaken day
If they had only knew
What would happen as they walked
But they were just full of fun
As they laughed and talked
The driver said he never saw them
As they stepped out in the road
No matter how hard he braked
He couldn't halt his heavy load
It was over in a second
Four girls lay on the ground
All lives ended in a flash
They never made a sound
But now they are together
And will forever be
All playing up in heaven
To be young eternally
