Old And Broken

Old And Broken

A Poem by George David Hope

                                                                              OLD AND BROKEN
His bodies old and broken
His life is nearly at it's end
Failing bit by bit
Impossible to mend
His family gathered around his bed
All filled with grief and woe
Eye's sore and red from tears
It's nearly his time to go
His sight begins to fade
His eyes they start to drop
His book of life is nearly shut
This is The End...full stop
His breathing's slow and shallow
Until it finally ebbs away
His candle of light nearly extinguished
His body waiting to decay
Hie eyes no longer see
All his pains have now all gone
All that's left is peace and quiet
Now his life is done
Reunited with long dead relatives
Who'd left when he was in his prime
Now he looks down on those left behind
To watch over for all time
