The Vending Machine

The Vending Machine

A Poem by George David Hope

                                                                          THE VENDING MACHINE
In a canteen factory
stands a single vending machine
That once so full of goodies
But now the shelves are clean
Gone are all the sandwiches
No more pasta pots
All the chocolate bars now eaten
And soft drink empty slots
Apart from a lonely yogurt
Rejected both night and day
People spin the carousel
But no one dares to stay
It stands there hoping to tempt
Wishing for some to take a chance
But they all want something else
Never giving it a second glance
Doing it's best to look so fruity
Sitting all alone on it's shelf
Why don't you give me a try
I'm oh so good for your health
No one wants this yoghurt
It's still within it's best buy date
There's nothing more that it can do
is just sit there and wait
