Empty Shells

Empty Shells

A Poem by George David Hope

                                                                      EMPTY SHELLS
Wrecking ball waiting outside
Door removed like mouth so wide
Broken windows reveal it's fears
Like hollow eyes filled with tears
Curtains flapping in the breeze
Like white flags begging "Help me please"
Memories only now remain
Who says houses feel no pain
Kitchens ripped out beyond repair
It's like the world just doesn't care
Owners gone now all alone
It's like they have a heart of stone
Now silence echo's down the halls
No more children's or mothers calls
All the carpets now filled with dust
Metal fixings all turned to rust
Roof tiles gone so long ago
Wallpaper now where mushrooms grow
Mould the only thing to roam
In this house once called a home
