Benny The Bee

Benny The Bee

A Poem by George David Hope

                                                                                BENNY THE BEE
Benny was a little bee
Who tried so hard to please
But Benny had a problem
Pollen made him sneeze
He little antenna would get so itchy
And his eyes would all turn red
Being a bee who had hay fever
He wished he could stay in bed
Benny found a lovely clump
Of blue Forget Me Nots
By the time he'd collected the pollen
His nose was full of snots
He pleaded with the Queen bee
"Could I have an office job?
I can write down who's collected what,
Don't think I'm a lazy slob"
The Queen she saw his problem
With his eyes so red and sore
She said "I might have the answer,
You can stand and guard the door"
Now Benny has a special job
He controls who goes in and out
And if you have good hearing
You just might hear his buzzy shout
He tells the bees to form a line
In case they bang their noses
He makes sure that there's no bumping
Bringing back pollen from the roses
So when you see a bee hive
And a bee stood by the door
You can bet his name is Benny
And his hay fever is no more
