a few simple questions

a few simple questions

A Poem by G Garcia

What is the scent of life?

What is the nature of nature?

the silence between heartbeats,

the darkness between breaths,

the shadows between visions,

the spaces between instants.

stop dead,

smile,

and

sense that the void is vital.

What is the secret of death?

What is the nature of the unnatural?

the heft of the hammer,

the intrigue of the anvil,

the urge to forge links of chains of irons,

the need to then break them.

shed them,

soak in, savor,

then

stoke the fires of the forge.

What is the blood of love?

What is the love of blood?

the warmth of skin in darkness,

that guides me to heat,

a topographic map

to the stars.

I touch,

taste,

and

trap the trembling truth:

all we need is time and space for love.
