The Old TeacherA Poem by K
The old,
second-grade teacher with the sixties beehive hair piled thick and stalking down at her students, who thrash and yell, while they pop and smack their pink bubbles, throwing paper airplanes made from pages torn from notebooks. The old teacher with the pastel cardigan waves a picture. See this ape? He is a gorilla. He squints. His face wrinkles. Is he deep in thought? Or simply looking for something better to do? The old teacher with lips like a love seat, full and red. Dali lips with cracks from water damage. Pursed lips to squeeze out stress. An airplane dives nose first into her beehive. Looking for something better to do. © 2008 K |
