Part One: The Negotiation

Part One: The Negotiation

A Chapter by Douglas Levi Gribbins

(Note:The year 2170, when planet Earth had been split into only two nations, United States and China, Tensions were high but for now, there was peace on earth.)

It was the year 2174, when Margaret Jones gave birth to twin boys, one named Xavier, the other named Devin, unfortunately, the mother passed shortly after the birth, causing the two boys to take on the fathers last name. The father, named Jerry, had a job, but it did not pay enough to support two boys under one household for long, the father was always borrowing money from relatives, stealing, and other methods in order to support the boys.

As for the boys, Devin and Xavier always got along quite well, never fought a day in their lives, they were never taught to share toys, it was somehow in their essence, they were inseparable. It wasn't until year 2180 when another world war broke out between the two world nations, and Jerry was given the option to sell one of his boys to the military labs for an experiment on young humans, their goal to develop a biological super-weapon, Xavier was sold to the military for a whopping 5,000,000 dollars, enough for the father to buy a mansion for him and his now only son, Devin, and enough money for him to start his own extremely profitable business.

The father seemed quite happy and oblivious to the fact that he literally just sold his own sons life away for a cause that was war, almost to the point where he had seemed to forget Xavier's complete existence. Devin was never told what had happened to his brother, he was only told that Xavier had moved away to a happy place, a tale that Devin accepted and believed for most of his life. Not a day in his life did the father stop and feel an inch of guilt for the deal he had made without hesitation, No nightmares, no karma coming back for him, not just yet.

As for Xavier, shortly after being sold, was taken to an underwater lab based in the Bermuda Triangle, he was put into his own testing room, where he had been chained up so he would not be able to run away from the scientists who was going to be injecting him with various chemicals. The room was a rectangular shaped box surrounded by inhabited water blocked by glass, and lit with dark blue lights. As one scientist walked over to Xavier with a needle showing a yellow liquid, and announcer spoke into the microphone, "Welcome to the Bermuda Offshore Lab, or B.O.L for short!" The announcer continued "You are here to be a part of one of two things, either the best thing to happen to military science, or the worst thing to happen to military science, either way, this is going to hurt." The announcer chuckled before saying "You can call me Professor Close, but by the time we release you, you will possibly know me as your father.".

A very good opening chapter. Create new Earth and situation. I like the way you led to the ending of this chapter. Left the reader with question and possibility. Thank you for sharing the excellent chapter.

Real interesting. The ideas are remarkable. Love the way it is so easy to read and take in; its precise, the pace is enjoyably fast. This chapter (or rather prologue) basically sets the plot (an amazing plot too); only the succeeding ones would tell us more about the characters of course. Hope to see this grow into a great sci-fi..
