The Little White SailboatA Poem by GailAlexanderThis poem tries to evoke a hot, somewhat lonely day at the lake. The Little White Boatby Gail AlexanderThe little white boat sits alone on the weathered gray dock.
Seagulls fly noisily overhead. Gracefully they skim the surface of the gray-blue water.
The sky overhead is a dazzling blue, but fades into a milky grayness near the dark green horizon.
Other little white sailboats bob lazily in the calm water of the lake. Their sails hang listlessly, like flowers wilting in the heat.
There is no wind today - no clouds.
I too feel listless in the hot summer heat. as I lay on the old weathered gray dock.
I stare up at the too brilliant blue sky. I too am alone. Like the little white sailboat - alone.
