AfterlifeA Story by Gaia OctaviaPostcard story: A complete story in 250 words or less. Word count: 249I’m going to do you a favor and let you in on an ancient secret. I’m only asking a trivial boon in return. For this small favor, I will arm you with the knowledge of what comes after death for us all. It’s a deal, really. Surely it comes as no surprise to your advanced society that your consciousness does indeed outlive your physical body. In afterlife, you remain as spirit indefinitely until earning enough energy to experience another life. Energy is earned through private means, such as employment from spirits with energy to spare (and in no hurry to return to the tactile world) or through the thoughts of the living. Each thought expressed by the living creates a spark of energy that belongs to the subject of that thought. Even in afterlife, Elvis is king. I know you may not believe me, but I rest assured knowing that at some point, you will find out I’m right. So, my advice: cause a stir. Ensure that those around you will think of you long past your years. You can follow the footsteps of Mother Theresa or Charlie Manson; it makes no difference to me. All that I ask in return is that you spread this message along with my name - that every person who learns this invaluable information remembers my name every day of their life. For I, Mehmet Haptshut, have been biding time for millennia, saving my ravenous stores of energy for a rainy day. © 2016 Gaia OctaviaReviews
