Inside My Mind

Inside My Mind

A Poem by Gaia Octavia

I close my eyes and always know
just where it is I want to go
a place that no one else can see
starts flowing gently over me
and in my mind its form takes shape
this place into which I escape

With rolling hills of soft, long grass
my fingers kiss as I walk past
a mighty oak perched on hilltop
a fitting place I always stop
with bare toes curled in soft, cool grass
I look out on a lake of glass

While softened wind does carry by
the smell of earth and clear, crisp sky
I hear the chirps and calls of fowls
the mighty question of the owls
and bustling squirrels start giving chase
they're in and out of every place

While a brook goes babbling by
I feel no need to question why
and through this din I still find peace
my worries fade and all thoughts cease
a place where life is not unkind
this favorite place inside my mind

Thank you for entering.

Your piece is very calm, melodic and behold such beautiful imagery.
These two lines in particular were my favourite:
While softened wind does carry by
the smell of earth and clear, crisp sky

They just seemed so innocent, and included all the sensory imagery which makes one feel they are truly present in another world.

Thank you so much! You are too kind.
What a wonderfully detailed place you have taken us all to. You craft words together so beautifully. It always interests me so to know what people see whenever they close their eyes; whether it's a memory they permanently want to live in, a favourite hideout, a person's arm or a place created by the mind.

Great piece, Gaia!

Sound like you have found the perfect spot to detox the mind from. I think the picture you painted with your words have us all longing for such a rest stop along our own paths. Beautiful.

This just made me relax. It's nice to be able to shut everything off and out for a little bit, a trick I need to master.

Meditation takes practice but it well worth the time ☺
Ah, introversion... I'm a huge introvert to the point where I need to be alone with my thoughts in order to function... You have elegantly portrayed what this world looks like and I love it. Nice job!

You're welcome!
This is brilliant and is really my sort of Poem. I believe in mind palaces and experimenting with frames of mind. Really enjoyed this :)

Nature is a lovely place to find inspiration and to find peace. When in great forms of stress, it can be a happy place for many. Nice rhythm and flow. Impeccable word choice. I applaud with sincerity and I look forward to stacking you among the rest of the submissions.

Thank you very much! I genuinely appreciate it ☺
It was beautiful! I loved all the different rhyming words you used and not just words that sort of fit. I loved how calming and peaceful the poem is, yet it shows that life has calm and relaxing spots and the world isn't just a cruel place.
