Writer's Block Party

Writer's Block Party

A Poem by Gaia Octavia

I'm throwing a party
and you can all come
all the greats will be there
and we'll have lots of fun

Poe is bringing some candles
to brighten the mood,
he may be doomy and gloomy
but he's one thoughtful dude

Maugham is bringing some men
to keep the ladies at bay
'cause if there's one thing he hates,
it's a woman yapping all day

Austen's bringing her sass
with some spicy cheese dip,
I told her that was enough
since she brings all the quips

Plath is bringing baked goods
cause she's being ironic,
she's the only girl Maugham talks to
(but their love's quite platonic)

Hemingway's bringing fish
'cause he knows he's all that,
and also because
he could not bring his cats

Alexandre Dumas
brought a lime jelly mold
because just like revenge,
it's a dish best served cold

Shakespeare's up in front
he's reciting his quotes
while we stare up in awe
and howl at his jokes

There are plenty more writers
coming up the sidewalk
and I'll thank each one for
conquering this writer's block

Thank you! Much appreciated ☺
This is hilarious! I love all of the references to various writers. The stanza about Poe has to be my favorite. You have also done a pretty good job of maintaining the rhythm throughout. The rhyme scheme is also good. Thank you for sharing this. A creative piece sure to inspire those of us suffering from writer's block. :) Fantastic work!

Congrats on the win! Even though I entered the contest, too, I had to give my vote to you. After all, the best is the best!

Thanks a bunch, you are too kind ☺
Light.
Smooth.
Polished.
And most importantly, last but not least, Enjoyble.

Great read. Great lyrics. Once more, couldn't help but sing this aloud while reading it. (though very quietly because I am at work.)

Well. That's one way to look at it. Now I feel guilty. Let's keep this as our little secret, yes?

I loved this and I loved the irony in turning writer's block into a topic for writing:)

A fun and enlightening read. Light and breezy, a fitting homage to the greats. I hope it was as much fun to write as it was to read.
I know a few of those guys (and gals), but not all. Luckily, I have quite the reading schedule all mapped out for me :)
Reading Jane Eyre ATM. I think I love her. :)

This was fun, a party anyone would want to attend, and a gentle reminder to read the classics.

Thanks ☺ It was fun for me as well.
This was really neat, I love the witticism used in your knowledge of all the poets, and in tying that into a big party for the overcomers. Awesome work :)
