Columns of lustrous shine
pulled taught,
each one like a mermaid's purse:
stretched so thin,
you can see my baby sharks
if you hold me
against the light

Author's Note

Gaia Octavia
A "mermaid's purse" is an egg casing that surrounds the fertilized eggs of a few types of sharks. When held up to the light, you can see the baby shark through the thin casing.
