Cognizance

Just a rhyme/near-rhyme challenge I set for myself. I was limited in word choices so it's super awkward but it was just for fun.

Faceless words are ominous
in a world where all are anonymous
and lies are spread without consequence
for the sake of shaking confidence

As those lies take root in our consciousness
inflicting untold pain which is bottomless
our insecurities come into prominence
until anxiety becomes monotonous

We must always keep autonomous
our minds from that of the populace
as the world becomes one metropolis
so our truth and their lies aren't synonymous

I drafted a poem last week that looks at this, too. How long the so very many will allow their hearts to be seduced away from their own brain?

Sorry for the delay. I look forward to reading your take and thank you for your kind thoughts. It's something I think a lot about as well. Initially, I just started with an opening line ending with a word that wouldn't be super easy to work with, but I found that my mind immediately took it here for that very reason. It's hard not to think about these things when everywhere you look people are "socializing" by ignoring each other and posting pictures of their breakfast ☺

It can help, though, to look beyond the cyber world, too. Although it does seem to be becoming increasingly difficult - but there are people out there mingling with each other: face to face, eye to eye, shaking hands, sharing the hour. Keeping it real

I agree but I am also far more cynical and my first thought was, "yeah but those are the people who lived before cell phones and social media." Which, by the way, I can say because I grew up using payphones and reading maps hehe.
