Hera

Hera

A Poem by Gaia Octavia

Goddess of marriage
with sorry excuse
for husband and lover
in mighty God Zeus

Goddess of birth,
did it drive you mad
to hear so many others
calling him Dad?

Your mighty scepter
steeped in vanity
poured vicious revenge
on all humanity

Queen of heaven,
so uncontrolled
your cruelty bound
by chains of gold

Jealous Hera,
you must acquiesce--
that which you rule,
you can never possess

On the natures of love and power, this promotes thought. It has a tone that a philosopher or writer of commentaries (past or present day) would appreciate, though a temple priest might find blasphemous.
The structure is a sound vessel, not only to safely carry the reader across the deep seas of the concepts and thoughts, but also to deliver in timely fashion, the sweet, steady rhyme, so earnestly husbanded.
The lines of the fourth stanza encouraged me to further my education in the Greek mythologies, the story of Hera's punishment for leading a revolt against Zeus was new to me.
I thank you for bringing this poem to my attention.

Yep, 'twas a goodun.
Perceptive and pithy.
Sad to say my effort is decidedly below par, but I just couldn't get into Hera. :(

I am. I hope my dad isn't Zeus in disguise.
If it is, it's a fantastic disguise.
I loved reading this, being a big fan of Greek mythology. Loved the write!
