Fever Dream

Fever Dream

A Poem by Gaia Octavia

Shifting reality
kaleidoscope eyes
sipping noon tea
under starry skies

Throbbing veins
unfettered haunt
curdled bloodstains
megaphone confidant

Picnic on the ceiling
melted color smiles
vague uneasy feeling
backlit profiles

Bone deep aching
damaged control
darkness overtaking
swallowing whole

I had a really strange fever dream that had vaguely threatening and super confusing flashes of scenes. I don't remember much about it but tried to capture the feeling of it.

I came across the title of this piece as I was strolling the long halls of your library of works, in search of one which you recommended to me.
It rang the bell of a memory of a novel by George R. R. Maritin from 1982, Fevre Dream, at least in passing, for I did not think you would have penned a poem about it or its subject, nor even have read it.
It was enough to stop my search and open the gate, to view the treasure inside.
Solid construction, with a wonderful rhyming scheme, four twisting stanza that unveil marvelous vistas to challenge the reader.
One small point, the first and third line rhyme of the first stanza is not quite as strong as the rest.
this is enjoyable on a simply visual level, the descriptive turns of language a joy.
