Between Strangers

Between Strangers

A Poem by Gaia Octavia

You look my way
and in the blink of an eye,
we lay in a wash of gold,
sunrise pouring over
naked skin, entwined

In one breath,
on a sun-kissed porch,
nestled in a swing, we smile,
as products of our progeny play

In one heartbeat,
a table laden with treasure,
surrounded by three generations
and a twinkling tree

In one moment,
I lay your arms across your chest
and soon join you
in an eternal embrace

But your eyes skip mine,
I go unnoticed,
and in that blink of an eye,
we remain strangers

In a nutshell...

The idea of this poem, all that potential and possibility condensed into an inkling of chance, reminds me of universal genesis and 'the great conception'. That spark. The fusion. In the case of this poem, it doesn't happen. Except it does in the authors mind. It's like an Escher work.

I found this Chinese proverb last week, and "Between Strangers" reminded me also of this... Mind if I share?

"If destiny wants you two to meet,
You will come together although you come from a thousand miles apart.
If destiny does not want you to know each other,
You remain strangers even if you stand face to face"

Upon reading this, I was impressed with three first stanza. Then the 2nd was better. Then the third. You kicked butt!

You are very welcome. I like your stuff!
So I'm not the only one who does this!
Thanks for your sensitive depiction of what I am sure is a universal human experience. I enjoyed it immensely.

Oh, yeah!...I'd missed that.
You somehow managed to put everything I've been thinking/feeling lately into writing.

This is amazing.
