Black CoffeeA Poem by Gabrielle Linch Bitter coffee stained every word that passed pale lips. Anger heated the water of sweetened tears. The roasted scent of regret poured like french vanilla from steaming eyes. Do not tempt a boiling pot, for that boiling pot will over heat. And the consequences of condensation will melt into reality. Once the mug of life cracks, sugar will not mend it. Cream will not undo the sour residue from worn out taste buds. The coffee will stay bitter for all eternity. And no- thing, absolutely nothing will be able to change that taste of bitterness that lingers behind. It will dance on the tongue as if a ballerina. That single caffeinated thought burns in the ba- ck of the mind, withdrawn and jittery from deprivation. The whole batch is ruined with blistering words.
