Finding Happiness

Finding Happiness

A Poem by Gabrielle Linch

This is a tall tale that has not been told,

Rue the grave day if it ever grows old.

The journey yonder rose five residents,

Cunning and crafty little elements.

Off to a wonderland is where they seek,

To unearth golden sweet bliss at its peek.

In a paper air balloon they must fly,

To reach their destination in the sky.

Earth holds the heavy weight on her shoulders,

But do not be fooled by her stern smolder.

Patience is a virtue, and Mother Earth

Possesses all, it gives her needed worth.

Aged wisdom painted on her stubborn face,

And carries herself with absolute grace.

Bitter looks towards naive generations,

But secretly has admiration.

Fire destroys everything in his path,

He has much trouble controlling his rath.

Resentment burns bright with flames in his eyes,

But none know that at night the flame soon dies.

He yearns for a friend, companion, or Pal,

To admit untold secrets with, he shall.

However, he burns at the slightest touch,

No one wants to feel the pain of his clutch.

Water has the pureness of a child.

Behind the innocence is a warped smile.

Pessimistic as if a small cascade.

She rains on everyone's cheerful parade.

Sensitive towards others fervid feelings,

Though the aspersion is not appealing.

But she does see some beauty in the world,

Even though it may not be a white pearl.

Wood appears to be over confident,

Takes criticism as a compliment.

Gives Mother Earth the livelihood she needs,

But deep down feels like he is planting weeds.

Others see a beautiful evergreen,

With a consistent burst of energy.

What he does not show is his exhaustion,

He watches his actions with much caution.

Metal has intent to keep a firm grip.

At times, she loses sight and starts to slip.

Flaws and hardships stand in her way.

She can not shake the feeling of dismay.

Failures replay in the depth of her mind.

Anxiety controls and leaves her blind,

To all her great achievements she has built.

Like the eiffel tower that will not wilt.

Little did they know they were wasting time,

Trying to find happiness at its prime.

It does not come from a place, but inside.

In time, they will realize this and abide.

So just accept yourself for who you are,

Only then, you will travel wide and far.
