Never True

Never True

A Poem by Gabrielle Linch

Walls as cold as a gallery.
Painting portraits
But the canvas is blank.
Straight lines that unwind,
an unrewarding message.

A conversation superseded,
I read between the lines.
Same old story since day one,
Lost circling a moment
Deep inside my head.

Twisting theories into bigger knots;
a well-known stale routine.
Can I change my ways?
Can I confront my past?
These wounds are self inflicted.

Tethered to a ghost.
To a memory.
The truth was like swallowing sand.
Losing my direction,
time to make amends.

Welcome to a depression,
That I'll learn was never true.

Having experience in the areas of paranoia and wasted hours lost in insecurity, I feel at home in this piece. Writers in general will like this for its naked honesty. Casual poetry reader might blow right by it with no effect, but a writer will feel this one.

very nicely done, true and real, with depth and character.

This seems to me that you don't know which direction you want to head in life, or you have a slight confusion of the world around you. I love how it is written, and it's darkly beautiful.

I guess you could say it's a little bit of both. And thank you so much!
