Storms

Storms

A Poem by Gabrielle Ash
"

Do we all get to this point at some time in our life?

"

It's after three in the morning
and i'm eating peanut butter from its tub
with a spoon and broken heart,
staring into the darkened room that this storm
has left me with.

The rain took the power and my common sense as well
- or was the latter consumed by your empty footsteps
when you walked out of my life.
I can't tell
anymore.

my heart has struck defeat
so put this sad song on repeat
until my eyes are too dry and heavy to stay awake
and my heart's grown too cold to break
anymore.

I want to walk out into the navy night
and let the icy rain pour into my skin,
consume the heat from within, and make the light
of my hopeful soul dim,
until it has become as black as the night.

I want to be numb.
