Scratches

Scratches

A Story by Gabriel Soberanis

It's been several days since those scratches have started. I listen to them everywhere, and only at times do they stop.
Rodents or other animals? They can't be, I've checked everything. Incessant noise on the walls, on the roofs, under my bed. Absolute reason for not being locked up, the noise drives me crazy.

The infernal but liberating noise of the street makes me forget those scratches; Small and constant, without a known origin.

The night is approaching, only thinking about going back to that house with all those sounds freezes me. There is no remedy, the return is necessary.

With fear I open the door to discover with joy that those sounds of scratches have finally gone away; a night of peaceful sleep awaits me.

With renewed energies I can return to normality; Day with a bright sun and clear street. What's going on, what's that? Again there's the sound of scratches, on the street?

It's not possible, they don't stop for a second! They persecute me no matter where I go. Ha! Suddenly I've come to the answer.
In the night while I sleep they enter by my ear; it was never the walls, it was never that house.

Finally knowing the solution is already; only I need be accurate and find them, and this ice pick in my eye will end with the affliction.
