Sarah Lamar, 2008A Poem by Gabby NievesA poem I wrote with Jack Kennedy. Her voice rings in my head As she recites all of my sins Killing my sanity, Bringing up my wrongs Reminding me again! She takes me back to that day Over and over echoing the words Words of a victim now slain.
"Are you satisfied now?" Do you ever think of my skin, My pale, dead skin As you tossed me in that ditch? Your hands around my neck Gripping tighter and tighter Until my legs stopped kicking, My last breath exhaling You deepest regret. I watched as the life flashed back into your eyes Did you really think you could get rid of me? Here I hold your sorrow filled heart, Cemented with my decaying body. Remember the anger in your step When you busted through our door? The portraits of self-hatred And loss of control You left on my body When the days didn't go right It all ended with your hands, Those hands that carry my blood The closed case on my missing life. Are you content now? Tell me, how much longer can you sink? Burying deeper with every drink You think I'm gone? Every breath, Step, Thought, Fear, Desire I'll be there Watching as you burn You see, I may be dead But I've never felt more alive Because everything I see, I see it through your eyes. © 2015 Gabby NievesAuthor's Note
