Whatever Helps

Whatever Helps

A Poem by Gabby Nieves

If it helps
We can leave town
Drive to the end of monotony
And free the burden of our darkness,
Escape the shadows that have consumed our creativity.
Writing this now it feels I've been missing a part of me
I thought was caged and locked away
When he left
Something's been killing me since he walked away
This emptiness harboring inside me
Now I don't even remember who he was
Just another blank face
On the vast wall of existence
But I know one thing is fact
We will all die someday
Him, you, me
So what's it worth to you,
To leave it all behind?
To lose all you think you have
Forget the mask you've created
In the desperation
To forget that one day
You'll be nothing

Response Verse

By Jack Kennedy

If it helps
I haven't been the same
Leaving you was a mistake
I suffer dearly for making such
Emptiness burst throughout
I don't know how you are now,
Just know I think of you always
Forever I will miss the old times
Wish I could come back to you.
I come back and I see your gone
Am I too late?
Who have you run off with?
Why should I be surprised?
I left and now I have lost you
Lost in the world
Mind torn to shreds
Knowing I will die one day
Without you here with me
You were everything to me
I hate myself for leaving it behind
My love for you will always be
Because I now realize without you
I am forever nothing
