A Poem by Gabby Nieves

Do you remember
The color she put in your grey mind?
The prints of neon lights sliding off her cheeks
As you drove through the night
Do you miss
The thoughts she gave you?
The life she breathed you?
As the lights now trace your fingers
On the steering wheel
Do you wish
Things were different?--
Back in 87'
When your car slammed that tree
Do you wish
It was you
Who died on that stretcher?
Back in 87'
When you were still free,
Do you wish it were you
Instead of me?
