Potentially Dangerous

Potentially Dangerous

A Poem by Gabby Nieves

In an effort to escape
I opened the window and leaped
Into the depths of my unconscious
Swimming through my mind
I was shocked to find
I wasn't safe there at all
The waves of trauma, they call it
Crashing up on the beach of insecurities
And pulling away any ounce of prosperities
The black and blue walls of every
Hand mis placed and every word harshly spoken.
It was all too much
At once
But by then I was ripped through time
I ended up at a cherry wood door,
A party house thumping to the beat
Of some cheesy top 40 song
Pushing through crowds of people
Without faces,
Thumbs without traces,
You realize too far and too lost
That you were the main character
In your book
The story line that combines and intertwines
Until the end of time
Then theres nothing you can do to return
You've locked yourself away in the cage of memory,
Self inflicted captivity
You are no longer alive
But you have not said goodbye
