Human Cell

Human Cell

A Poem by Gabby Nieves

Blood rushes through your veins

And your mind stops.

You wonder about life after life

And hope the thoughts will go away.

And they do,

Until the next time

They resurface

And your mind stops once again.

The world becomes a picture on a darkened wall

And you a spec in an empty white room,

You begin to float and something much stronger than fear

Captures your beating heart.

And in one quick moment,

You’re on the floor of that room,

Dead.

And the world rotates

And time continues on,

Without you,

Just fine.

and maybe that is just what happens...we just die and that is it...and time continues on without us...maybe there is no eternity...i have pondered that question...hoping there might be something better than what we have here...but i also have garnered the possibility that when we die...there is nothing more...i think we want to make the most of what we have here...and hopefully being poets, we will leave something of ourselves that will be worthwhile...even though we may need that rubber room before it is all over.

Very true, the main reason I keep journals and write poems is to leave something of myself behind so.. read more

I used to speculate about the afterlife question a lot. But it's like Heinlein said (through Lazarus Long). There is no proof in favor of a next life, and no proof against, either. Soon enough, you will KNOW. So why fret about it?

Very wise words, and I've started to feel that way about everything. I mean why waste time worrying?.. read more
I too have wondered what's next after this but I try to think of something else like perfecting my poems or something... I'm rambling about nothing now so back to this poem which I found to be greatly written and leaving me with certain questions. The last four lines are my favorite but the whole poem is awesome! Take Care
