White Picket Fence

White Picket Fence

The white picket fence

around my heart opens

to greet your honest love.

My fear appears again

and I shut up like a

heavy iron gate.

You savor me as if I am

sweet lemon sorbet

tasted on a gondola in Venice.

My fear appears again

and my flavor turns

sharp and bitter.

My curls are a delight to you

and you playfully run your fingers

through the length of my hair.

My fear appears again

and your doting hands

become stick in the dark mass.

My waist is encircled by your arms

and you bow your head to pray.

Your lips move fervently for my benefit.

My fear dissipates a little;

because of your love and God's love,

my white picket fence opens again.

A beautiful and hopeful poem. I like the use of the picket fence. I missed your amazing poetry. I hope all is alright with you. Are you writing elsewhere? Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.
