THE ILLUSORY SILENCE

THE ILLUSORY SILENCE

A Poem by Gurdeep...The Lost

"Cẖupai cẖup na hovaī je lā▫e rahā liv ṯār"

----By remaining silent, inner silence is not obtained, even by remaining lovingly absorbed          deep within.
(Jap(u) Jee Sahib, Sri Guru Nanak Dev Jee).

                                THE ILLUSORY SILENCE
As the moon is unbosomed quietly, by the fairy night,
So silence around brings you, within yourself to light !
There's reliance on it, for provision of peace,
Dispelling of agony , and hours of ease.

But as the advent of an eclipse, obliterates the silver glow,
So the inner-self is obscured, by the pestering thoughts which flow!
These then deeply subjugate the mind,
Leaving for you, no comfort of any kind.

There are sights through the void to your way,
Which, cause perplexity and bring dismay.
Those which you hated; you ponder upon their cause,
And the moment of silence suffers a long pause.

Quiet, yet so loud -- this silence is queer,
With recollection of the past  and worries sheer.
Remembering then, the talks, you deeply do feel,
And the wounds caused by words, you try to heal!

And then the matters with which you need to deal,
The fears therein, and the ominous feel.
The encumbrance , to succeed in all,
But for peace, upon whom, shall you call?

You sit in silence; surrounded by a crowd
Of indifferent friends and people proud.
There is struggle in mind, there are thoughts wierd,
The peace expected has disappeared.

Hence, there is pillage of comfort and ease,
As the battle of thoughts doesn't tend to cease.
There cannot be peace, by silence mere,
For the mind has it all, 'tis seldom clear ...

I love the rhyme and flow of the poem. It's a deep and brought up a lot of emotions within me.
"Quiet, yet so loud -- this silence is queer", this is perhaps my favorite line in the whole poem :)

G - you put much depth in this verse as I read about this write...in the the 7 stanzas...of your work...and in doing so keep the format with the rhyme scheme...I do ask if this would be more fitting without the word play and go free verse in the concept of the entire...Thanks for the invite in my RR's...so manty of them at the moment...I'm pressed for time with the book: The Onyx ~ Vena Amoris...out next month...please spread the word out for me...and those interested in see my work at well...

Peace is an elusive unicorn and this piece explores that beautifully. Fantastic stuff!

I can relate to this poem way too much. I’ve tried many different approaches at inner peace, praying, yoga, qi gong, spiritual books, groups, nature, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc. Meditation is very difficult for me. Usually just makes me sleepy. Sometimes makes things worse it seems. The journey to ourselves can be a tough one. Anyways, I thought your poem was quite good, and it actually rhymes, so big gnarly thumbs up on that.
I was a little confused, you say, “So silence around brings you, within yourself to light!” - is this light also illusory? The poem seems to suggest that there is a moment at the beginning of the silence in which one comes into contact with one’s higher self, and that this is then obscured by all the thinking. I wonder however, if that is really how it would happen? A moment of truth would suffuse your mind for a long time, maybe always. Maybe this is just someone that is meditating way too long.
Ok, I’m talking to much, not enough of that silence. I liked all the stanzas, but maybe the fifth is my favorite. Keep up the good work

Your work is incredibly vivid and picturesque, and appeals to all the senses. I see nothing but good things in this piece. The form, flow, and rhymes all come together to produce a lyrical effect. Beautiful piece :)

I like the poem but I have to disagree with the top statement. Silence is not illusionary but a dual reality where we gain the positive or the negative in our journey of life , faith , wisdom , and others. The two selves( the lower and the higher ) or the two minds have to interact with each other and think with each other in silence. If silence is illusionary then God or the Spirit or any thing that is part of the spiritual realm which we can't see but with spiritual eyes and feel their existence are that too......Just my opinion dear poet...:)
