Fate's Embrace

Something I wrote a little while ago, so here you go!

We as humans are so blind. We mask ourselves in fear of what lies beneath.

I, myself, am no better than those who walk among me in a blissful nightmare. I feel the cold concrete against my back as the sweet, precious liquid pours from my chest. Each ounce slithering its way down my side and turning itself into a small stream of who I once was. My own actions led me here.

Staring upwards into the dark sky, a blurred figure looms above me. Golden eyes pierce my soul as a grim smile crosses its face. Black as smoke, its body dripping with a stench filled sludge. A representation of all those who came before me. All the evil in this world. Every wrong doing, and every sin for all of time that has come and time that will be. I have been given the glorious opportunity to glare at what we are in its purest form in my last moments.

Letting my head slump to the side, my eyes fall upon the golden coin that rested between my still fingers. The glistening from the city lights stings my sight, but I don't look away. A tear falls from my quivering cheek as the ominous symbol distorts from my hopeless cries. No words are spoken from the figure above me as it watches me slowly depart from the world I have known.

My journey with this beast has taught me lessons that no man should learn in their lifetime. For if we knew what I know now, and with such minimal consciousness of the universe, what are we to do? We as humans are so blind. We know not what we speak. We know not what we do. We know not who...or what we are.
