I Thank God For The Freedom Of Abuse.

I Thank God For The Freedom Of Abuse.

A Poem by M.M.

I wasn’t in the Marines the Navy or the Army

But times I lived like a soldier you see

I had a guard at my door had to jump at his command

I wore his wedding band

I was kept in a room with out a key

No visitors could visit me

I had a time limit on the phone

I felt like I was living in an army camp instead of my home

I had to sneak late at night

With a flashlight

Under my covers so he couldn’t see

I would then write my poetry

I had to get up before the chicken to fix him something to eat

Then helped him with his bath washed his feet

I had to hide my pain and aches

And if I made a mistake

I would get punished maybe get a burn on my arm

I had to learn to be strong

I had to take the welts on my leg

As he trended to tie me in a garbage bag

He could kill me he’d say

And he’d never have to pay

His knife his stick his baseball bat to

Comes to mind of things he would do

He shot me I almost died

Like a soldier who no one hears as they cried

I now go though P.T.S.D. You see

As times I felt like a soldier fighting for others to get free

As I hid the things I had to do

For my children without them what would I do?

And now today as we celebrate Independence Day to be free

I thank God for the Freedom he has now given me.

I'm so glad that you're free now. A very emotional poem, with haunting imagery. You truly are a soldier, and a survivor. *Hugs*
