Chapter 4A Chapter by GMAngel"There is no room for trash where treasure sits."--Kierra Kinsley It's been 3 hours. I'm tired, hungry, and pretty much just fed up with today. Terra came home around 4 after hanging with her friends. First thing she did when she walked through the door was throw her jacket and backpack on the ground and head to the kitchen. As usual she left the kitchen a mess after she attempted to make herself a snack and almost set the house on fire while attempting to make a grilled cheese sandwich. She then ordered me to make her one after she burned it and left me to clean up her mess after she ate it. At 5 I went upstairs to clean up Kierra and Jaxon's bedroom only for her to shove her dirty clothes at me and send me out the door and to the laundry room after she had me dig out her favorite pair of pants from the mountain of clothes in her closet. She probably has more clothes than Macy's and Sears combined. As I was making her bed I found a condom. Not just any condom, a used condom. Ew, just ew. I was forced to pick it up with my bare hands because she refused to let me go buy gloves after I had run out the hour before. To make things worse, I found a vibrator and handcuffs under the bed. Now, I didn't really think that Kierra and Jaxon were intimate considering Kierra's icy personality but after this experience I decided that it would be better for my virgin eyes to steer clear of their room for a while. So, what am I doing now? Well, lets just say cooking for two snobs, a she-devil, and a workaholic was not exactly something I enjoyed much. Thankfully, I was not alone in this overly drastic task. Ava the cook was in the process of helping me make Cajun seafood pasta. Yup, they were all into gourmet dishes you would only find at fancy restaurants where a glass of water cost fifty dollars. I sighed to myself feeling my annoyance from earlier rising. "Cheer up, Sorsie. It could be worse. They could have asked for roasted chicken again," Ava said trying to make me feel better. I simply rolled my eyes at the memory of the day when Terra had come home demanding that she wanted roasted chicken for dinner. It had taken a solid four hours to prepare that ridiculous meal. Ava walked over to me and lightly patted my cheek with a smile. "It's okay Sorsie, someday they are going to be begging on their knees for you. Just don't forget to get some payback for me." Ava is the only person who ever calls me Sorsie. She thought that Callista was a mouthful. I couldn't help but give her a small smile. Ava was like the mother I wish I had. She was sweet, kind, and selfless. With her shoulder-length black hair, warm brown eyes, and exotic Filipino features, she didn't look a day over thirty. She was small, but not as small as me and she was strong both physically and emotionally. She never let anything get to her. Not even Kierra's constant insults and demands. I loved her to death. With one last smile she said, "Now go set the table while I serve." I nodded once and then entered the dining room with my arms full of napkins, utensils, a pitcher of water, four glass cups, and a table cloth. Five minutes later I was carrying the plates out and setting them in their respectable places at the table. Ava came out with a salad which she then placed in the middle of the table. We surveyed our work silently and finally satisfied, Ava lead me back to the kitchen where we would eat our own dinners. See, Kierra didn't allow me to eat with them. She said and I quote "There is no room for trash where treasure sits." Jaxon had tried and failed to get them to accept me but Terra and Brooklyn immediately agreed with her. After I finished eating I waited impatiently for them to finish. When they were done, I cleared the table and helped Ava wash dishes before sneaking upstairs to my room. Finally! I'm free. For today anyways. Quickly, I stripped out of the uniform and went into the bathroom so I could take a nice hot bath. My bathroom was completely black and white. The tiles and walls were black, the porcelain sink was white, there was a see-through shower in the corner, and then there was my bathtub. It was a crystal clear glass bathtub in the shape of a whale; purple towels hung on a white towel rack next to it. I turned on the faucet and let the tub fill up with water before slipping in. After washing up with vanilla scented soap, I sat in the water for a while enjoying the feeling of the water massaging my skin. Slowly, I let myself slip farther into the water until I was completely submerged.I stayed like that for a few more seconds before I let myself up again. I dragged myself out of the tub, wrapped a towel around myself and got dressed in my closet not bothering to dry my wet hair. That's when my eye caught on the mirror. The door to my solace-to my Narnia. I narrowed my eyes as I approached the mirror. I put my hand on the glass and pushed it slowly, pushing the mirror open to reveal an old dusty cobweb covered spiral staircase. I climbed the steps two at a time until I came to another door. This one was wooden and black with a few scratches on it and one of those old doorknobs with a key hole under it. At the top of the frame was a small gold key that I quickly reached up and grabbed, inserting it into the keyhole and turning. A soft click resonated through the empty stairwell. I placed my hand on the doorknob trying to contain my excitement. Bright light penetrated my eyes as I turned the knob and pushed the door open. Finally. © 2015 GMAngel |
