A Poem by Glen Fitch

        Sure-footed, nimble,
            stable, sturdy, swift,
                So I present myself
                    and so I've faired.
        I do so much.
            Endurance is a gift.
                Does anybody know
                    I'm running scared?
You swept me off my feet
            the other night.
        We hugged and kissed
and fucked and talked till dawn.
                Doors opened bravely
                    (God, it felt so right)
                I dared to cross.
                    I tripped.
                        I found you gone.
I just kept right on going anyhow.
            (Perhaps that night together
                never was)
        You're free.
            Perhaps you'll call
                and I'll be glad.
        I 've no regrets.
            I doesn't hurt right now.
                I know it will.
                    Not yet.
        But when it does,
            Real soon,
                it's gonna hurt
                    and hurt real bad.
