TWENTY-FIVE YEARS

A Poem by ALAN BOWMAN

For twenty-five years the lamp did burn,

Surrounded by a halo to protect her.

The government bright and warm,

Across the valleys

Where the coal would burn;

To warm the heart of those who learn.

Twenty-five years,

The wheels will turn

Building power for industry to burn,

Lining the pockets and wealth to store;

The lights will burn for ever more.

For twenty-five years he built his home;

For twenty-five years his lamp did burn;

For twenty-five years the world plugged in;

Burning the lights without a thought,

For those that burn their lamps at night...
