“Intoxicating Daydreams”

“Intoxicating Daydreams”

A Poem by G. A. Bernard

It was a wet day as the sky ran tears

While the organ-grinder chased his monkey

The lady in the red hat had an umbrella full of holes but she walked on

The old man on the corner wondered what he had smoked

A priest looked up - not to pray but to drink the rain

A young girl pushed an empty carriage and the baby jumped for joy

The taxi driver walked away - no fares today

The UPS driver wanted the monkey suit but the monkey had a meeting to attend

In the high rise above them that blocked the rain

The hot dog seller sold chocolates because there were no buns

People slipped on the street as the diamonds on the soles only scratched the surface

One newspaper seller could not give away the last paper in the world

No one reads anymore - tell me a story even if it’s not true

The last tequila shot burned my throat - maybe tomorrow will bring the sun
