Your image moves through the aperture
Across a stretch of wire to me.
I can see you, though I can't affect you any other way.

I know I'm just a passing phase, a capricious companion-
And we will part as quickly as we met.
I can't change you, but you changed me, though that lens.
I can't move it, can't change the picture I see-
You could leave, and probably will-
And I can't stop you.

I long to reach through, and touch you,
Or move the camera, to see more of you-
I sit, though, afraid to try-
Afraid of failure, yes, but afraid of success even more.

If I can't change this picture, your leaving will not be the fault of anyone.
If I succeed, though, and you flee-
I will know you saw me and turned away.
