We shared something that night-
Two lonely souls, connected at a doorway-
The threshold a husband carries his bride over.

Except I didn't carry you, nor you, me
We stood, together, looking backward but also forward-
Willing to let go of the past and move into the future

We arrived at this place separately-
And must leave it separately as well.
For now, though, we are together-
And there is nothing better-
Then a companion to join you in the future.
