One Night Substitute

A Poem by G. Harrison Quay
"
This piece was written about forty years ago and was actually intended to be song lyrics, but, I don't know anything about writing music, so I never did anything with it.
"
The girl who sits and smiles at me in the glow of candlelight,
is not the girl whose love I miss and hunger for tonight.

She's just a girl to ease the pain of being here alone,
just a one night substitute for the girl I left at home.

No this is not the girl I love who's sitting next to me,
she's just a girl I found tonight to keep me company.

She's just a girl to ease the pain of being here alone,
just a one night substitute for the girl I left at home.

She's not a girl you'd call your own or ever learn to love,
she's not a girl you'd promise the moon and stars above,
she's just a girl to ease the pain of being here alone,
just a one night substitute for the girl I left at home.

She's just a girl to ease the pain of being here alone,
just a one night substitute for the girl I left at home.

I remember this piece so clearly. As you know, well-written poetry stays etched in one's mind.

She isn't one you will find love with, but one for companionship. I believe companionship is a need, not a want. Sometimes love doesn't even provide companionship.
