Letting Himself Love

Letting Himself Love

A Poem by Galen Casanova

He stands alone at the edge of the cliff
Looking out over the dark waters
There's a sickening feeling in his stomach
And his hearts aches
He has loved in a less than romantic way
And he has lost more than just friends
We experience love and we experience loss
He has learned to move slow
To take his time with the one he wants
They hurt him in a way he didn't expect
People change and their needs do too
This went by in a flurry like a gush of wind
He has someone new
And he wants it to last
So he'll take it one step at a time
One day, one moment, one word
Because how can you truly love someone you don't know
And oh, does he want to know him
But not just know him, he wants to show himself
The parts not everyone gets to see
Because what becomes soft must first go through tough times
To love is to risk loss
But isn't love worth it in the end
So one step, one day, one moment at a time
He'll treasure each of them
